Q. What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
A. Search Engine Optimization, also called SEO, is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website by modifying the code, text, pictures, layout, etc., to help it rank higher for certain keywords or key phrases. It can also include the removal of remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines, registration of your website with certain website directories, link trading, article and press release distribution and other tactics to acquire links to your website. At Servator Design we do not practice SEO techniques that might harm your business or your rankings such as link farms and cloaking.
Q. What is Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
A. Pay-Per-Click is the practice of placing an ad or link in a search engine and paying the search engine a fee when a person clicks on the link. Most PPC models allow you to specify a certain range that you are willing to pay for each click on a link and you can adjust the amount based on where you want to appear in the listings. If you want to be number 2 in the rankings then you would need to bid higher then the person already in the number two spot. With PPC you can find a balance between how much you want to pay and the amount of traffic coming in.
also included in the category of PPC are what we call Shopping Engines. These are search engines that only display products and product ordering information. Instead of making a list of links to your website you would submit a database of product information. When a person searches for a camera on one of these search engines a list of the cameras would appear with the prices, descriptions, and generally a buy button that takes the person directly to a spot on your site to purchase the product. The bidding and ranking works primarily the same as regular PPC search engines.
